PC shape and hole machining: Double sided FPC manufacturing process
Most of the holes and shapes of flexible printed boards are machined by die-cutting. But that's not the only way. Depending on the situation, various methods or combinations can be used for processing. Recently, with the need for higher precision and variety, new processing technologies have also been introduced.https://www.kingfordpcb.com/yuan.php
First, FPC hole processing technology
At present, the most widely used FPC for batch processing is punching, and small batch FPC and FPC samples are mainly CNC milling. These technologies are difficult to meet the dimensional accuracy requirements, especially the future position accuracy standards, and are gradually applying new processing technologies, such as laser engraving, plasma engraving, chemical engraving and other technologies. These new shape processing technologies have high position accuracy, especially chemical etching methods not only have high position accuracy, but also have high mass production efficiency and low process cost. However, these techniques are rarely used on their own and are often combined with piercings.
The purpose of use is divided into FPC contour machining, FPC drilling, FPC groove machining and related parts cutting. The simple shape and the required precision can be machined by a single stamping. For substrates with particularly high accuracy and complex shapes, if the processing efficiency of a pair of molds does not necessarily meet the requirements, FPC can be processed in several steps. Specific examples are inserting plugs into narrow-hole connectors and positioning holes for high-density mounting components.
2, FPC pilot hole
Also known as a bit hole. Usually, hole machining is a separate process, but there must be a guide hole to position with the circuit pattern. The automated process uses CCD cameras to directly identify positioning markers for positioning, but this equipment is expensive, has limited applicability, and is not usually used. At present, the most widely used method is to drill positioning holes in copper foils of flexible printed circuit boards according to positioning marks. Although this is not a new technology, it can significantly improve production accuracy and efficiency.
In order to improve the punching accuracy, high precision and low chip punching method is used to process positioning holes.
3, punch FPC
Punching is the process of punching and contouring on a hydraulic press or crank punch using a pre-prepared special die. There are many types of molds, and sometimes molds are used in other processes.
Milling process time is in seconds, very short and low cost. Mold manufacturing is not only expensive, but also requires a certain amount of time, so it is difficult to adapt to the trial production and design changes of urgent parts. If CAD data is provided, the NC data from the NC milling process can be executed immediately. The length of milling processing time of each workpiece directly affects the level of processing costs, and the processing time is also very high. Therefore, unified processing is suitable for products with high prices, small quantities or short trial production times.
