Which software is the most efficient for PCB design?
The selection of software in PCB design is very important. PCB assembly and PCB processing manufacturers introduce which software is the most efficient for pcb design?
When I first learned PCB in 1992, I used the PROTEL 3.31 version under DOS operating system. I liked the PADS2000 under DOS operating system with the recommendation of my friend. Later, I used to use the POWER PCB under WINDOWS, but I felt PROTEL99 was not easy to use!
The disadvantage of POWER PCB is the part library (too few packages). Most part library packages need to be made by ourselves, which is not as good as PROTEL99!
But I still use POWER PCB all the time, and I'm used to it!
I agree with Seeking Sun that the selection of cabling tools should be based on the complexity of specific cases, management methods, etc. In fact, each wiring tool has its advantages and disadvantages. For example, PROTEL 99SE may be better for simple, low-frequency systems with fewer parts. Because it is easy to get started, it is better to buy a book and do it step by step. Allegro is very powerful, but it can't be used for simple cases. Moreover, the software is also complex to use and requires high system requirements. The main thing is that the price is relatively high.
Varies by product.
Most of our existing products are only thirty or fifty parts. So far, I still use Protel 98 for Lauout. The advantage of this software is that it is very convenient for all manual wiring, has sufficient design rule checking function, and can fully reflect the functional and aesthetic requirements of engineers for products. The board is the most beautiful and has the best electrical performance among all colleagues.
For some complicated ones, such as FPGA or multi bus, I will directly use Candence. The design rules are rigorous and the functions are perfect, especially after the automatic wiring, which can meet the general electrical requirements. And the most important feature is that it is convenient.
Looking back on the use of protel99 when I first entered the Jianghu, I felt that it was very good. I tried my best to recommend it to my classmates. Later, I was reluctant to use PowerPC B because of the need of work. At first, I felt very awkward, but later... I never touched Protel again. Hehe
Nobody uses zuken? I use pads2007 and zuken's cadstar 8.0
Orchad+Allegro should be the best choice in the current market The premise is: you are complicated and have many layers
If you do something simple, choose POWERPCB
Forget about Protel That's it You are embarrassed to say that you can use EDA software It's not good for your career Unless you don't want to get a higher salary
It would be perfect if powerpcb had the cursor capture function of protel. Due to the nature of the work, the boards I make are required to be very accurate, and they can be drawn very accurately with the capture function. It is too troublesome for powerpcb to accurately locate a component, and it has to convert itself into coordinates. Protel with capture function can do it easily. So we can't lose protel now.
If you are new, I think Protel99se is a good choice, mainly to exercise your manual wiring ability, so as to lay a good foundation for future design.
If you are a prawn, you will not be satisfied with it. You can choose more powerful PCB design software, such as POWER PCB, veritest, and the EXPEDITION series of Mentor Graphics. Of course, the software costs are expensive.
At present, PROTEL 99SE is the foundation, and most companies also use it
I think Eagle is good. The only trouble is to create a copy function of the component library. Its user forums can basically find all the answers. And its users can upload and download new component libraries to share I used Protel, Eagle is better than Protel
Cadence Allegro is certainly the best choice Ask Cadence is used by large companies
I think it depends on what you can get in touch with first. Generally, enterprises can't afford to use software like CR5000, let alone individuals. Start with the software that you can access first. The method can be learned now, but the experience of drawing and typesetting should be accumulated slowly.
Personally, I think cadence is the strongest, and the Expedition of Mentor is also very strong. However, I feel that there are too few people using it, which is not conducive to communication, so I prefer cadence
I have basically used these softwares, which have their own characteristics. Protel is simple and easy to use, and powerpcb is a little more complex. Allegro will be more complex to learn. But the specific application environment depends on your application environment, such as what software your colleagues use and your application level. These softwares can be said to go to high-end applications in turn, which is good for you in general.
It depends on what kind of products you design. Consumer products such as mobile phones, GPS, MP3... and Zuken's CR5000 are very easy to use
Pads2005 is better
Zuken's CR5000 has complete functions
PADS2006 is easy to use
It depends on what PCB is made. Each has its own specialty. I recommend Allegro for making computer motherboards, and AWR products for high-frequency design and simulation
Personally, with the development of science and technology, the density, miniaturization and specialization of pcb design have certain advantages
If you are new, I think Protel99se is a good choice, mainly to exercise your manual wiring ability, so as to lay a good foundation for future design.

At present, I am also studying. I have seen protel 99, protel dxp and power pcb. I still think that protel dxp is easier to learn because it has its own tutorial and sample, which is easier to learn. However, in my work, Taiwan's R&D seems to prefer to use orcad, generate DSN files and use allego to generate gerber when making schematic diagrams,
POWERPCB is better than PROTEL, but cadence is more professional, but it is also difficult to learn.
It is true that different people have different views. As tool software, each has its own characteristics. The choice depends on the specific occasion. If strong functions and complex designs are required, the high-end products of Mentor and Cadence are more high-end choices; For general use, Mentor's PowerPC B and Cadence's orCAD are the choices of most people.
Personal suggestion: If it is an ordinary simple small board, PROTEL can be used. Easy to use and master; If it is a professional multilayer motherboard, such as computer motherboard or mobile phone motherboard, of course, CADENCE is necessary; If the number of ordinary parts is not too many multilayer boards or two layers with more parts, it is better to use POWER PCB!
